We Remember Them

IMG_2762 Remembrance day 2015.

Two months ago we were in Gallipoli. It is the 100 anniversary of the battle. Newfoundland sent it’s own troops, it was not part of Canada until 1949. Canada fought with the United Kingdom.

So many soldiers died on that battlefield. They were so young. These poppies  were unexpected and  it was so sobering to me.

There are so many memorials and cemeteries in this area, all the graves are well cared for and the whole tour was very respectful of both sides of the conflict.

It is so moving to see the quanity of graves, all ship shape and well tended. I went to see the German ones one year – they were sad and neglected and broken, and it made me cry too.
