Upheaval

Finally the restoration people have come in this morning to start work on my sewing room. The humidifier and fans are on and he said that he will return next week.  The walls are taped to show the level of dampness in the walls.  The floor will have to come up and two outer walls repaired.  Gyproc removed and replaced.  This will take several weeks.

In the meantime, I have been thinking of how to sew with all this happening. My dh is going out of time for 10 days, I’d really like to make a dent in my sewing stash and I have a lot of clothes planned.  Every time I go up stairs, I take something more from the sewing area to my dining room.  The dining room table was extended out to 92 inches for New Years and will now have to double as a sewing table. Everytime, I go downstairs I take another Christmas thing that needs to be put away.

I went out shopping yesterday with all my little swatches of fabric to get thread, picked up the latest copies of Somerset Studio and Cloth Paper Scissors  magazines and went to the latest yarn store on the North Shore. Urban Yarns is now in Edgemont Village and I did buy some yarn. Oh my, the Hand maiden and the Fleece Artist did me in. I got a F.A. Kid Silk scarf skein in the richest mixture of Autumn colours.   I suppose you can’t tell yet that I was going to try to get solid colours this year  but it will look lovely with my new wardrobe.

On the knitting front, I have nearly finished a sock. I am working with a 2mm dpns and the density of the sock is much improved.

Two of my favorite knitters have started a joint blog. http://friendsknittogether.blogspot.com/ Congratulations to Heather and Adriana.

Resolutions

Last year I created an ATC which celebrated New Years, with the comment. Each day I shall Create art, explore and dream. I kept a list of finished items, which covered knitting, sewing, hand bound books, jewellry, altered art( pages for swaps, cards and atcs) and dolls most of which I have documented and my grand total was 78.
My usual list starts with I must organize my supplies.
I wanted to start my list again with creative pursuits. But nature has thrown a bit of a kybosh. It is raining again, although now it is sunny. To make a long story short, the perimeter drain is blocked and the water has come into my sewing room.
I will resolve not to keep any thing on my floor anymore, and to clear out what I don’t need.  We are going to have to clear it out completely, I don’t know where I will store things. The floor is laminate hardwood on a foam base. It is all wet.
So I will organize my sewing supplies, stash and books once again, I guess if everything comes out of the room, I will endeavor to put back only what I need and maybe a few things I want. The wool is safe.
